The Meyer Memorial Trust (MMT) is supporting a comprehensive, long-term watershed restoration program in Oregon's Willamette River Basin that focuses on both the main river and the health of its tributaries to effect positive change in the whole watershed. The primary goals of the program are to increase the pace, scope and effectiveness of restoration in the Willamette Basin, while continuing to build community groups and support the local green economy.
After reviewing various working strategies and gathering input from the watershed community, MMT decided that their ideal tributary scenario looked a lot like BEF's Model Watershed program and chose to work with BEF to manage this very exciting initiative.
Through this partnership, MMT has committed funding that will allow BEF and MMT to work with local watershed groups in up to four comprehensive, 10-year river restoration programs in Willamette River tributaries. Over the long-term, BEF's partnership with MMT and participating local groups will lead to healthier communities, cleaner water, and improved fish and wildlife habitat. We expect to rigorously track the results of this initiative through time and provide detailed accounts of our progress, lessons learned, and the effectiveness of the approach in improving resource conditions and capacity of local watershed councils.
Currently, we are evaluating applications from eligible local watershed groups in Willamette River tributaries. We'll post those programs on this page once that selection has been made. Read more about BEF's Model Watershed program.
