Alden joined BEF in September 2009 to help inform the development of the Model Watershed Program’s funding strategy, develop and manage opportunities for grantees to interact with and learn from each other, and share information about the program with the broader funding community and other restoration practitioners. Since 2000, Alden has pursued her interest in the interconnectedness of ecological and social systems through work on solutions-based natural resource policy, and collaborative community-based natural resource management. She has worked in the private, public, and nonprofit sectors with organizations including the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, the Sonoran Institute, Sustainable Northwest, and Fenton Communications. Kendra Smith | Willamette Model Watershed Program Director
Kendra joined BEF in February 2009 to manage the model watersheds in the Willamette, which is an initiative funded by the Meyer Memorial Trust. Prior to joining BEF, she was the program manager for watershed restoration at Clean Water Services, and a private consulting ecologist. She enjoys building and creating things – green houses, restoration projects, watershed plans, even program infrastructure! Kendra appreciates the power of nature to surprise and humble us at every turn, and enjoys hiking, backpacking, cross-country skiing, and traveling with her partner and two dogs. She earned a BA in Biology and Economics from Colby College and a MS in Ecosystems Management from Oregon Graduate Institute.

Before BEF, he worked for The Nature Conservancy of Washington as the Port Susan Bay Program Manager, planning and implementing landscape-scale conservation efforts in the Stillaguamish River estuary. Before moving to Washington, Robert spent eight years working in a variety of restoration efforts, related research and monitoring in the Columbia River estuary, including stints as the Executive Director of the Columbia River Estuary Study Taskforce and Executive Director of Sea Resources. Robert’s bachelor’s degree in Architecture and Master of Science degree in Environmental Science are from the University of Idaho.
BEF believes it takes at least a decade to make a difference.
