fossil-fueled sources, this amount of electricity would have emitted 3 lbs of
CO2 into the atmosphere.
This could power:
- An electric toothbrush for 7 weeks
- A 42" plasma-screen television for 3 hours
- A typical video game system for 3 days
Rosa Parks Elementary is the eighteenth project in Bonneville Environmental Foundation's Solar 4R Schools program. Rosa Parks' teachers will use the photovoltaic system to enhance their classes. An interactive, flash-animated kiosk located in the school's entry hallway details the live and historical performance of the 1.1 kilowatt system, visually depicts how solar electricity is generated, and describes the numerous other sustainable technologies incorporated into Rosa Parks Elementary. The school, a model of efficient design, has received recognition as a LEED-Certified Green Building.
