Today, Greenwood Elementary School generated 3 Kilowatt-hours of electricity. From
fossil-fueled sources, this amount of electricity would have emitted 4 lbs of
CO2 into the atmosphere.
This could power:
- An electric toothbrush for 10 weeks
- A 42" plasma-screen television for 5 hours
- A typical video game system for 5 days
Greenwood Elementary School's photovoltaic system was first installed in October 2002, making Greenwood Elementary the first Seattle Green Power project to start generating clean, renewable, solar electricity. The system was not operating from Fall 2006 until July 2008 because of a blown fuse. Solar 4R Schools repaired the inverter, installed a data monitoring system, and provided educators with activity guides and science kits.
