Today, German American School of Portland generated 31 Kilowatt-hours of electricity. From fossil-fueled sources, this amount of electricity would have emitted 44 lbs of CO2 into the atmosphere.

This could power:

  • An electric toothbrush for 2 years
  • A 42" plasma-screen television for 2 days
  • A typical video game system for 9 weeks

German American School of Portland (GSP) is located in Beaverton, Oregon and is home to one of the largest PV system on a school in the state, as of January 2009. Under peak sun conditions, the 7.8 kW system can generate enough electricity to light more than 560 compact fluorescent light bulbs. The PV system was donated by SolarWorld USA, with additional funding provided by PGE and Energy Trust of Oregon. BEF provided project management and educational materials.
