Today, Breckenridge Elementary School generated 0 Kilowatt-hours of electricity. From fossil-fueled sources, this amount of electricity would have emitted 0 lbs of CO2 into the atmosphere.

Breckenridge Elementary received a 1.53-kilowatt solar electric system, installed on the school’s roof in November, as well as activity guides and science kits designed to teach about renewable energy technology as part of Bonneville Environmental Foundation’s Solar 4R Schools Program.
Through the year, the school’s solar array will provide enough electricity to power a classroom.
BEF and the Town of Breckenridge began its partnership in March 2008, when the town purchased 6,511 renewable energy certificates to offset the electrical energy consumption of its infrastructure. These carbon offsets replace traditional polluting sources of electricity with clean and sustainable wind energy. The certificates offset a total of 4,557.7 metric tons of carbon dioxide that otherwise would have been released into the atmosphere to accelerate climate change.
WhiteWave Foods, who also purchases renewable energy certificates from BEF, joined in the project with Summit Foundation and Copper Mountain Environmental Fund to provide funding.
