About SkiGreen

The Real Impact of Our Winter Play

In the 2010/2011 season, ski resorts across the U.S. drew in more than 60 million guest visits. While trip duration (and the associated carbon footprint of that travel) varies considerably—from 100 miles round trip by car to several thousand miles by air—the average single car trip to/from the mountain releases 150 lbs of CO2 into the atmosphere. At 60 million visits per year*, a minimum of 4.1 million metric tons of CO2 are released annually just by guest travel. At Bonneville Environmental Foundation, we wanted to give mountain lovers just like you a verifiable, measurable solution to reduce the impact of your winter play.

SkiGreenTM is a program of the Bonneville Environmental Foundation, made possible with the support of Clif Bar and our participating resorts. It is the only program of its kind offering a simple, affordable method for skiers and snowboarders to offset the biggest carbon emissions contributor associated with the ski industry—the travel of guests just like you to and from the mountain.

Join the Cause—Reduce What You Can, Offset the Rest

That’s our mantra. And imagine if just 1% of all skiers and snowboarders offset their trip—that would keep 41,000 metric tons of CO2 from the atmosphere this season alone. Be part of the solution. Wherever possible, reduce your emissions by sharing your ride—carpool, ride share, take a ski shuttle or ski bus. And, offset what you can’t avoid by purchasing a SkiGreenTMOffset from our participating resorts. It’s just $2 per trip or $20 per season. That’s likely less than you’ll pay for lunch one afternoon on the slopes.
