Join Ski Areas In The Fight Against Climate Change

Our collective skiing carbon footprint needs to drop a few shoe sizes. The good news is we can all help shrink it.

Ski areas depend on a reliable snow-pack to provide their guests with a high quality winter-sports experience. But air pollution from greenhouse gases is causing unseasonably warmer temperatures, reduction in snow-pack levels and ultimately lower quality ski conditions over fewer ski days.

SkiGreen is a partnership between the non-profit Bonneville Environmental Foundation and leaders in the sports industry to build support for non-polluting renewable sources of energy..

Participating ski areas fall into one of thee key categories as follows:

1. They support some type of renewable energy as through the purchase of renewable energy certificates from BEF.

2. They sell SkiGreen Offsets to their guests, so that the guest has an opportunity to offset their carbon emissions by directly supporting wind energy.

3. They do both!

What happens when I buy a SKiGreen Offset for $2

Each BEF SKiGreen Offset represents the reduction of 150 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions by supporting approximately 100kWH of clean, wind energy resources thereby reducing our dependence on dirty fossil fuels.

What else can I do?

In addition to supporting the BEF SkiGreen program, you can calculate your travel to and from your skiing destination using our BEF Carbon Calculator. You can also offset the emissions form your home, your business and trasnportatioin through the purchase of BEF Carbon Offsets

About Bonneville Environmental Foundation

Why should you spend your hard earned money with us? BEF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit environmental organization. And that means all of our "profits" get reinvested back into renewable energy and watershed projects. In a real sense, you and your community are stakeholders in our organization.

When you participate in our SkiGreen program, your purchase supports the development of a variety of sustainable energy and watershed restoration projects. On a broad scale, here's how your green helps the Earth stay green:

  • Adding renewable energy to our power grids
  • Funding solar power systems for schools and public buildings
  • Building wind power systems for farms, ranches and communities
  • Helping restore watersheds to improve water quality and native fish habitats
