"The mobile system is ideal for a number of uses around the area. It can power a sound stage at events such as concerts in the park, and other events where a loud gas generator distracts from the music or speakers on the stage. Willamette also takes the "Solar Roller" to its Electrathon America races."

Willamette High School installed the first of BEF's Solar 4R Schools projects. The school hosts a fixed 2.4-kW photovoltaic system on the roof of the school and constructed a mobile 1-kW photovoltaic plant/demonstration unit. Both the fixed system and the mobile unit provide energy to charge electric vehicles built and converted in the Industry and Engineering CAM program onsite. In addition, the mobile unit dubbed the "Solar Roller" acts as a remote charging station for the 14-vehicle Electrathon fleet.
The Solar 4R Schools program provides a demonstrable means of educating students on the functions and benefits of solar electric power at no financial cost to the schools. In addition to producing clean, renewable energy, each schools solar power system includes a curriculum package that uses web-based, real-time data generated by each installation to help teachers instruct students on the benefits of renewable energy.
A second, 1-kW mobile unit called the "Sun Rover" was integrated into a community program through EWEB and the Energy Outlet to provide a mobile electric source to power off-grid projects, events and educational demonstrations. |
