Horizon Wind Energy developed Prairie Star, a new wind project in Mower County, Minnesota. Farming continues at the project, which employs 61 Vestas wind turbines of 1.65 MW each. Prairie Star generates enough electricity to serve about 35,000 households.
BEF uses the Green-e Climate's "Protocol for Renewable Energy" to certify this project for use in Green-e Climate certified Wind Green Tags and Wind & Solar Green Tags, and to calculate the reduced greenhouse gas emissions caused by this project. This project passed the following additionality tests required by Protocol for Renewable Energy: (1) Performance and Technology Test, (2) Timing Test, and (3) Legal and Regulatory Test. |
