"This project has the unique benefit of exposing students to a cutting-edge technology that they can see, touch and experiment with, right outside their classrooms.  It also educates them about a potential real-world solution to our nation’s current energy debacle."

Orlo Vista Elementary School’s 1.1 kW PV system was unveiled on August 6th, 2005, during the Hands-On PV Workshop for Women at the American Solar Energy Society’s 2005 Solar World Congress.  The first of eight installations to be sponsored by the Vote For Change Renewable Energy Project (Stone Gossard, Pearl Jam, REM, Bonnie Raitt, and the Dave Matthews Band), this project is part of the artists’ national effort to raise awareness of the environmental impacts of our energy choices.

In addition to producing clean, renewable energy, Orlo Vista’s solar power project includes a curriculum package that uses web-based, real-time data generated by the system to help teachers instruct students on the benefits of renewable energy.
