Located on North Capitol Hill, Bertschi School Solar panels were installed on the roof of the pavilion at North Mountain Park just east of the Nature Center in October of 2005. The solar panels (or PV modules as they are called) collect solar energy, and a utility-interactive inverter converts the DC power from the PV array to standard AC power. The power is then synchronized with the city's electricity.

BEF assisted in the project by providing data monitoring service in October 2008.
