To encourage residents to make the switch to green power, and as a tangible example of Beaverton’s commitment to renewable energy, the city has added a new 1-kilowatt solar array to the roof of the Beaverton Resource Center. The solar installation was funded through an ongoing partnership between PGE, Energy Trust of Oregon, and the Bonneville Environmental Foundation, as part of the organizations’ collaborative effort to raise awareness about and promote the use of renewable energy.
Centrally located in Beaverton, the resource center is an important community meeting place and educational facility. As host to the school district’s English as a second language programs, after-school programs for youth through the Beaverton Police Activities League, and outreach initiatives for the city’s Asian community, the resource center is a natural home for the solar installation. In addition to supplying clean electricity to help offset some of the resource center’s energy use, the installation is also a valuable teaching tool, providing web-based, real-time data on renewable energy benefits. |
