Better energy for a better environment

Renewable energy uses natural resources like sunlight, wind, rain, tides and geothermal heat to create clean, nonpolluting energy. Simply put, it's the greener way to generate energy from the Earth.

Here at BEF, we promote and finance development of these various clean energy generation technologies through the sale of carbon offsets. Part of every BEF Carbon Offset purchase goes to supporting large-scale development of renewable energy, which helps to transform our country's energy supply to one that is less polluting.

The more carbon offsets we sell, the more support goes to developing renewable energy projects. It's simple math and an even simpler way to help do your part.

Winds of change

In addition to the projects we support through the purchase of BEF Carbon Offsets, we also play a significant role in the development of other renewable energy projects.

The White Creek Wind Farm was BEF’s biggest accomplishment in renewable energy development in FY 2008. BEF and a group of regional public utilities worked together to overcome the seemingly insurmountable challenges associated with financing, development and equipment sourcing to create the largest public utility-owned wind farm in the country. The 89-turbine farm in southeastern Washington’s Columbia River Gorge creates enough electricity to power 38,000 homes.
