2007 Los Premios MTV Latin America Apoyos Energía Verde
MTV Awards Show to Offset Greenhouse Gas Emissions with Renewable Energy.
MEXICO CITY, Mexico (October 19, 2007) -- In addition to celebrating Latin America’s top music, this year’s Los Premios MTV Latin America 2007 awards show included an environmental theme. MTV Latin America has purchased renewable energy, through Green Tags, from the non-profit organization Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF) to offset a significant portion of the greenhouse gas emissions impacts associated with the event.
Calculations of the event’s CO2 impacts were made including the projected electricity use for the event space at Palacio de los Deportes and the projected impacts of automobile and air travel associated with event production staff travel, and show performer and presenter travel.
“We’re excited to take these first steps in offering an environmentally-friendly music experience in Latin America,” said Mario Cader-Frech, VP Public Affairs, MTV Networks Latin America. “We hope to be an example for future events in the region and around the world.
Along with its carbon offsetting efforts, this year’s show has also adopted on-site environmentally practices including on-site recycling and the use of reclaimed materials in the set.
“The Bonneville Environmental Foundation is proud to have MTV Latin America as our newest supporter of clean renewable energy,” said Patrick Nye, Vice President of Sales for BEF. “This is our first ‘green’ event in Latin America and we look forward to partnering with more.”

About Bonneville Environmental Foundation
The Bonneville Environmental Foundation, a non-profit organization, was established in 1998 to restore watershed ecosystems and further the development and use of new renewable energy resources. Through revenues generated from the sale of green power products, BEF funds projects that restore damaged watersheds and support new renewable energy projects from solar, wind and biomass. BEF was a pioneer in developing the market for renewable energy certificates, which it calls Green Tags, and has helped establish national standards for certification and trading.
