Bonneville Environmental Foundation Helps Honeymooners Go Green with Carbon Offsets for Their Big Day

Portland, Ore. - (August 28, 2008) - Wedding couples and gift purchasers now have the option of giving green by offsetting their carbon emissions for their honeymoon travel.

In an agreement with TheBigDay, the Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF) www.b-e-f.org now offers carbon offsets (known as Green Tags) through the honeymoon RegistryWizard online at www.thebigday.com. Guests can purchase offsets customized for each couple’s actual honeymoon.

According to TheBigDay co-founder Michael Cottam, he originally built the gift registry for the purpose of focusing on experiences, rather than material goods. "These days, couples already have most of their household necessities before they get married after combining households, they’ll often even have two of many things. Their friends and family want to give them something they’ll enjoy on their honeymoon and remember forever, and they combine the gift with Green Tags. They can have their massage in paradise and preserve the environment at the same time."

Since adding charity items for causes such as the American Cancer Society, the Rotary Foundation, and even charitable causes such as providing sheep and goats for Iraqi farmers through www.heifer.org, TheBigDay has experienced a positive response from couples. "Promoting renewable energy to preserve the environment seemed like a logical next step for people who care about making our environment cleaner. We make it easy with Green Tags to add-on a gift back to the planet as part of the wedding gift," said Cottam.

Since www.thebigday.com opened in September of 2001, more than 50,000 couples in over 130 countries have used the service to plan their honeymoon -- often up to 18 months in advance.
