Bonneville Environmental Foundation and Adventure Passports team up to offer free SkiGreen Tags
Wind power solution offsets enough energy to travel by car from Denver to Aspen
Denver, Colo. (February 28, 2006) – The Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF) and Adventure Passports have partnered to offer free SkiGreen Tags with each purchase of Adventure Passports' new guidebook, Passport to Ski Areas of Colorado. One SkiGreen Tag will be included with each guidebook and represents 100 kilowatt-hours of wind power, offsetting the amount of greenhouse gas emissions caused by driving approximately 150 miles in the average U.S. automobile.
"Our partnership with the BEF gives us the opportunity to give back to the environment we work and play in," says Adventure Passport co-author Angela Ashby. "Our mission is to help create the trend amongst our readers of promoting sustainability, and the free SkiGreen Tag offer provides outdoor enthusiasts with an opportunity to have an impact on global warming."
Last winter, ski-goers at Lake Tahoe and around the Pacific Northwest bought nearly 5,000 SkiGreen Tags, funding enough wind energy to power 50 homes for one year. All BEF Mini-Green Tags support new renewable energy such as wind and solar. Sources that supply BEF's SkiGreen Tags receive an independent environmental review and meet or exceed the current highest standards for green power. They are designated ClimateCool by the Climate Neutral Network and Green-e certified under the Center for Resource Solutions.
"This represents SkiGreen’s first significant promotion within Colorado and the first time we’ve made the option available outside of a specific partner ski resort," says Patrick Nye, Director of Sales for BEF.
