Green Tags, also called renewable energy certificates or RECs, support the replacement of traditional polluting energy technologies, such as fossil fuels, with clean solar and wind power. Green Tags purchased through BEF help support the addition of new renewable energy to the power grid. Green Tags are available online: 100% wind for $20; 100% solar for $35; and a wind and solar blend for $27 each. There is a minimum purchase of 2 Green Tags per order.
Each Green Tag represents the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions that occurs when clean renewable energy replaces polluting energy sources. One Green Tag represents enough renewable energy to offset a typical home for a month with clean wind and solar power, and is equal to:
- 1,000 kilowatt-hours of renewable energy onto North America's power grids
- 1,500 miles of offsetting emissions from a standard car
