Renewable Energy Program

The Renewable Energy Program works to break down barriers to the development of community-scale renewable energy resources.

Our mission is to catalyze this market by building a critical bridge between technologies, developers, utilities and stakeholders. We work with businesses, tribes, utilities, consultants and community partners to assess, design and facilitate the building of community-scale renewable energy projects.

With customized project management support, we lead our partners through the development process by seeking creative design and funding solutions to ensure project success.

OUR SERVICES INCLUDE:

•    Project feasibility and assessment studies
•    Development of request for proposal (RFP) documents
•    Bid analysis and selection
•    Code compliance assistance
•    Solar system design
•    System commissioning
•    Project communications/outreach support
•    Strategic energy planning
•    Purchase Power Agreements
•    Utility interconnection assistance

BEF’s Renewable Energy Program was built on the experience of installing more than 150 small-scale
solar-electric systems across the country through our award-winning Solar 4R Schools program, as well as our hands-on experience with large-scale wind, solar and biomass projects. BEF was one of the first organizations to develop community-scale solar projects in the United States and recently served as the owner’s representative for First and Goal to install a large solar array on Century Link Field in Seattle.

We were a partner with White Creek Wind — a 300MW wind project in Washington — and worked with the City of Portland, Oregon on two separate large, third-party financed, solar PV projects. We also have experience with dairy digestion and landfill gas projects.

Renewable Energy Educational Guides

The Renewable Energy Program prides itself as an educational resource, and has published industry-leading guides on Community Solar and Stadium Solar development. It also worked with ECOFYS to publish two guides on Small-Scale Renewable Energy Projects — one for developers and one for Public Utilities. Download them below in PDF format.
