The goal of BEF is to change our current energy mix by adding more and more green energy to the power pool. Our renewable energy products displace generation that burns coal or oil or gas. Rather than recycling an existing renewable resource, BEF invests in new wind, solar, landfill gas and other projects that transform the energy mix. In addition, all of the renewable sources of BEF’s Green Tags meet rigorous environmental criteria endorsed by three leading environmental organizations including The Natural Resources Defense Council. To our knowledge, BEF is the only Green Tag provider that performs such project analyses.
BEF offers two products: Green Tags and Environmentally Preferred Power.
EPP (Environmentally Preferred Power)
EPP is a green power product delivered through BPA and offered to public utilities located in the Pacific Northwest. EPP is sold to Northwest public utilities. In some cases, the power is resold to residential and business customers and in others, it is added to the power offered to all customers of the utility. EPP is a blend of new and existing wind and low-impact hydro. In 2003, the new content is 60%.
