Be a Renewable Pioneer!
The City of Ashland and the non-profit Bonneville Environmental Foundation have teamed up to make it easy for homes and businesses in Ashland to support local and regional renewable power through a program called Renewable Pioneers.
By purchasing Green Tags from BEF, your money supports renewable projects both in Ashland and the greater Pacific Northwest. In fact, the new solar system at Ashland's Wilderness Charter School, pictured at right, was partially funded by Renewable Pioneers!
When you become a Renewable Pioneer, you are joining many Ashland residents and local businesses. These include:
Supporting renewable energy fights air pollution and global warming while supporting the local and regional economy.
Each Green Tag represents the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions that occurs when clean renewable energy replaces polluting energy sources.
Here's how it works: When you buy a Green Tag, your money is supporting the production of electricity at wind and solar facilities in Ashland and the Pacific Northwest. When a wind plant produces energy and adds it to the power grid, less energy needs to be generated at inefficient fossil fuel plants. When these fossil fuel plants generate less power, they also generate fewer CO2 emissions.
There are two ways to buy Green Tags:
- If you do not know how many Green Tags you want, use our Carbon Calculator to determine how much pollution is caused by your electricity use. Then you can choose what level of this pollution you would like to offset with wind and solar power.
- Alternately, you can skip the calculator and tell us how many Green Tags you would like to purchase. The minimum purchase is two Green Tags.
